  1. HHsFastUniversalGioModule 2.0 The probably fastest shareware Photogenics loader...

  4. +++ including fast PhotoCD loading support (correct orientation) and support
  5.     for 21 other file formats and additionally DataTypes! +++
  6. +++ new: now with TBCPlus frame and binary-EPS-Bitmap support +++

  8. This fast universal loader module can be used with Photogenics (I have tried
  9. it with Photogenics V1.2; it should also be usable with older versions;
  10. it will probably NOT be usable with Photogenics Lite, so better get the
  11. full version of Photogenics...; DataTypes option is only usable with
  12. Photogenics V1.2 or higher).
  13. It is shareware; without a keyfile which you get after registration,
  14. it will load all pictures in greyscale, regardless if they are color or not,
  15. but the speed and format support is the same, so that you can try if
  16. the module fits your needs.

  18. The loader module currently supports the following file formats:

  20. * IFF-ILBM (all standard formats 1 to 8Bit, EHB, HAM6, HAM8, 24Bit)
  21. * PhotoCD (Base format 768x512 or 512x768 (portrait); linear 24Bit colors)
  22. * PPM/PGM/PBM (P1&P4 b&w, P5 grey, P6 color)
  23. * QRT (also known as dump format by PD raytracers as POV-Ray)
  24. * Targa (RLE compr.&uncompr. 1/8/15/16/24/32Bit;incl. interleaved)
  25. * PCX (compr.&uncompr. EGA1-4Bit, VGA 8Bit grey/Colormap and 24Bit)
  26. * MacPaint (b&w compressed 1Bit format; datafork only)
  27. * BMP (uncompr. 24Bit RGB,1Bit,4Bit or 8Bit Colormap; RLE compressed 8Bit,1Bit)
  28. * TIF (packbit-compr./uncompr. Motorola formats 24Bit RGB, 1-8Bit grey/Colormap)
  29. * EGS7.x window iconification file format
  30. * DEEP (compr.&uncompr. 24Bit and 32Bit)
  31. * RGB formats (RGB8, RGBN, RGB5)
  32. * ACBM formats (1 to 8Bit, incl. HAM6/HAM8)
  33. * FBM formats (8Bit grey/color and 24Bit)
  34. * IFF-PBM (DPII) format
  35. * Sun raster (1Bit, 8Bit grey/color and 24Bit uncompressed)
  36. * YUV (color 1:1:1, 2:1:1, 4:1:1 and greyscale)
  37. * VLAB raw (color 1:1:1, 2:1:1, 4:1:1 and greyscale)
  38. * HHsYUVSq sequence format (sequential or random access)
  39. * HHsXRL formats (1-8Bit ColorMap incl. HAM6/8, 8Bit grey, 24Bit RGB compressed)
  40. * binary-EPS bitmaps (RGB and CMYK; this function is experimental)
  41. * TBCPlus frames (maybe also fields; this is untested)

  43. * DataType (incl. first frame of animations with Anim-Datatypes)
  44.   DataTypes are only used as option. If you want to load with DataTypes,
  45.   press the Prefs button in the loader window and select "DataTypes" and
  46.   OK (This is not possible with older versions of Photogenics; use V1.2
  47.   or higher). If DataTypes are selected, automatic detection loading of
  48.   files which are not supported by my module can be slower, as then first
  49.   DataTypes will first try to load the file. This can take some time.
  50.  
  51. To install this, just copy the file named "-HHsFastLoader-.gio" to your
  52. Photogenics:Data/Gio directory.
  53.  
  54. The name of the .gio module starts with a "-" so that it appears
  55. first in the list of loader modules (and usually will be tried first
  56. for automatic format detection). This makes sure that the fast module
  57. is used automatically instead of other modules if it can load a format.
  58. This should make your loading of many formats much faster!
  59.  
  60. Example loading speed advantages on my configuration (see below):

  62. ACBM: upto 2 times faster
  63. BMP:  upto 2.3 times faster (in addition some OS2-styles supported)
  64. DEEP: upto 1.3 times faster (in addition compressed images are supported)
  65. IFF-EHB: upto 2.5 times faster
  66. HAM6: upto 1.5 times faster (in addition colors can be better)
  67. HAM8: upto 1.7 times faster (in addition colors at left border should be correct)
  68. IFF-24Bit: upto 2.4 times faster
  69. IFF-8Bit: upto 2.2 times faster
  70. PPM-P6: upto 2.3 times faster
  71. PPM-P5: upto 3.1 times faster
  72. PCX: upto 3.8 times faster (in addition special EGA/VGA styles supported)
  73. PhotoCD: upto 3 times faster (in addition horizontal images are usually
  74.                 loaded in correct orientation)
  75. QRT: upto 1.3 times faster
  76. Targa: upto 1.7 times faster (this test in RAM: due to loading problems with
  77.     original loader from harddrive; in addition compressed images and other
  78.     depths supported)
  79. TIF: upto 3.3 times faster
  80. (GIF: upto 2 times faster with DataType-Loading and a fast GIF datatype)

  83.  68030/25MHz;PiccoloSD64;Photogenics 1.2;loading from Quantum harddrive; PhotoCD
  84.  loading from NEC2x; Please note that loading times can differ much on other

  87. In addition to the speed advantages, many new formats are supported as
  88. well (see above). Maybe I will create some saver modules in the future...
  89. Thoose would then be usable with the same keyfile.

  91. The fast loading functions have all been written by me in assembler and
  92. optimized for fastest speed. I did this for my famous shareware programs
  93. *** CyberShow *** (universal viewer for all OS3.x Amigas and esp. for Cybergraphics
  94. users), *** EGSPhotoAlbum Professional *** (picture management and presentation
  95. software for EGS) and *** EGS-TV Professional *** (sequence/animation editing,
  96. framegrabber (VLab/IV24) and Blue Screen Keying software for EGS).
  97. When new formats are implemented for my other programs (or the speed is improved
  98. further), I will usually also update the modules, which registered user can then
  99. use due to the keyfile concept.

  101. Registration
  102. ============

  104. You can register for the modules at the small add-on price of only 8US$ or
  105. 10DM if you order one of my other shareware programs, e.g. CyberShow, the
  106. universal viewer and slideshow program for all Amigas with at least OS3.0
  107. (loading the same formats as the Fast Modules and additional JPeg and
  108. offering True/HighColor support with Cybergraphics) or EGSPhotoAlbum or
  109. EGS-TV. Just include the extra amount with your order for one of thoose programs
  110. and specify your UniversalGIO order on the registration form. Demo versions
  111. of the programs should be available at the same places where you got this demo.

  113. Otherwise you should use the supplied registration form to register.

  115. If you only want to register for the modules, the registration fee is
  116. 18US$ outside europe or 20DM in europe. You will also get the latest demo
  117. versions of my other programs.

  119. If you are already a registered user of one of my programs and now want to
  120. register for the modules, the registration fee is 13US$ outside europe or
  121. 15DM (in europe). This includes the latest versions of my programs as update.

  173. The demo version may be freely distributed and used as
  174. long as the following conditions are met:

  176. 1) All files have to be kept together
  177.  
  178. 2) No file may be modified or crunched/packed.

  180.    The only official way to distribute the demo packed is the
  181.    original universalgio.lha archive.
  182.    The modules may not be disassembled or analysed. The limitations
  183.    integrated in the demo version may under no circumstance be removed
  184.    or bypassed.

  186. 3) Distributors may only charge for the duplication process (including media)
  187.    and not for the software. Theese charges may not exceed the following
  188.    limits: a) Demo on a PD-disk: 7$ (US-dollar) including

  200.    the demo version with products not exceeding the above price limits (e.g.
  201.    a cover-disk magazine for 7$ or less).

  206. 5) The registered version may not be redistributed. It may only run on one
